In
a partnership that is the first of its kind in the nation, WVIZ/PBS
& 90.3 WCPN ideastream and the Playhouse Square Foundation
joined forces to renovate the “One Playhouse Square”
building located at 1375 Euclid Avenue, creating the Idea Center
at Playhouse Square - a center for the arts, technology, education,
and ideas.
In 2002, ideastream was looking for a new
home for its combined media resources. Concurrently, Playhouse
Square was exploring the possibility of renovating the One Playhouse
Square Building as a new home for its arts education programs
and services. Identifying mutual interests and purposes, the organizations
seized the opportunity to join forces, form a partnership, and
renovate the building together, resulting in a combined savings
of more than $5 million to the partners and the community.
"There isn't anything like it in the country,"
said Art Falco, President and Chief Executive Officer of Playhouse
Square Foundation. "It's all about collaboration and partnership."
The Idea Center is a continuing partnership between ideastream and Playhouse Square, with
both entities sharing equal ownership of the building. It
serves as the broadcast headquarters and home for WVIZ/PBS and
90.3 WCPN ideastream, including its distance learning and educational
technology training facilities, and the site for Playhouse
Square arts education programs and services.
The Idea Center maximizes the community's
resources while allowing the partners to pursue their distinct
but related missions in a way that could not occur in separate
spaces. The collaboration between the two organizations continues to open
avenues for education and the arts - all to
the greater good of students, families and the Northeast Ohio
community.
